The pioneering of the establishment of museums in Central Sulawesi Province began with efforts to protect historical and archaeological relics in 1960. In accordance with the Instruction Letter of the Minister of Home Affairs\/Regional Autonomy dated February 5, 1960, concerning Violations of the Monumenten Ordonantie 1938 No. 238. The contents of the letter ordered Governors throughout Indonesia to protect historical and archaeological relics in their respective regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tim Pra Survey Kebudayaan Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah terbentuk pada tahun 1972 dengan tugas mengobservasi ke lokasi peninggalan sejarah dan purbakala, serta mengumpulkan data tentang benda-benda budaya yang akan dikumpulkan menjadi koleksi museum. Wilayah yang pertama menjadi sasaran adalah Kabupaten Poso dan Kabupaten Donggala.
Construction of the museum building began in 1977 on an area of \u200b\u200b18,330 square meters and was completed in 1978. The number of collections has increased to 138, consisting of 103 Ethnographic collections, 10 Historical collections, and 25 Ceramic collections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 0754\/0\/1987, dated December 2, 1987, the Central Sulawesi Provincial State Museum officially became a Technical Implementation Unit under the Directorate General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture.
Surat Keputusan Gubernur Sulawesi Tengah Nomor 6 Tahun 2001 tentang Pembentukan Organisasi dan Tata Kerja Unit Pelaksana Teknis Dinas (UPTD) pada dinas-dinas Provinsi, maka Museum beralih pengelolaan dari Pemerintah Pusat menjadi UPTD di bawah koordinasi Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah dan bernama UPTD Museum Sulawesi Tengah.
Regulation of the Governor of Central Sulawesi Number 27 of 2013 dated February 27, 2013 concerning the description of the duties, functions and work of the Technical Implementation Unit within the Regional Education and Culture Office of Central Sulawesi Province, Museum Management is within the working environment of the Regional Education and Culture Office of Central Sulawesi Province under the name of the Central Sulawesi Museum Technical Implementation Unit.
Arti penting dari pendirian Museum di Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah merupakan amanat dari UUD 1945 yang tertera dalam alinea ke 4 Pembukaan UUD 1945, yaitu “Mencerdaskan Kehidupan Bangsa” . Karena peranan Museum sebagai lembaga pendidikan non formal yang berbasis kebudayaan merupakan pusat informasi ilmu pengetahuan dan jendela kebudayaan Sulawesi Tengah. Kemudian dalam pasal 32 UUD 1945 ayat 1 menyatakan “Negara memajukan kebudyaaan nasional Indonesia di tengah peradan dunia dengan menjamin kebebasan masyarakat dalam memelihara dan mengembangkan nilai-nilai budayanya”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
